During the extension of the obsolete old treatment plant, practically a whole new technology was implemented, in addition a new main pumping station was designed and constructed. BDL was selected to complete the permit and detailed design phases. The project meant a huge improvement in operational stability, and pollution reduction.
In order to ensure undisturbed working conditions, the main pumping station was equipped with a a rough screen with 220 l/s hydraulic capacity. After the mechanical cleaning phase, the new technology consist of two separate corridor type biological basins, providing ammonium and organic matter removal, with changing denitrification. The phosphorous removal is ensured with chemical dosing, the suspended solid content is lowered with a newly built secondary clarifier.
To protect the recipient water, and the water ecosystem, strict wastewater discharge limitations shall be kept: the total phosphorous content must be under 2 mg/l, and the total nitrogen concentration must not exceed 15-15 mg/l.
The trial period was conducted successfully, and the results are:
- quality of live(quality of life/quality of living) is improved for more than inhabitants
- continuous water pollution stopped
- ensuring the security of the nearby drinking water sources
- the water quality of the recipient improved
- the excess an dehydrated sludge handling was improved to fulfill all relevant ligslation
