Water challenges European is facing with

Károly Kovács, president of the European Water Association (EWA) participated in Wasser Berlin, the well-known professional water-related trade fair. He acted as a chairman of the conference focusiong on the European water issues.


The expo is the main meeting spot of the global water sector where representatives of the whole water community is attending: from the water industry professionals to scientific and technical participants and local governments as well. The European Water Association (EWA) also participated not only as an exhibitor but as organiser of the so-called Europe Day, a conference focusing on eEropean water challenges.
On the conference German, English, Dutch, Portuguese and Finnish professional lecturers examined the impact of brexit on the European water issues, the future task needed in the water utility sector as a whole, and through best practices innovative and sustainable water solutions and experience were also discussed.
In the session had been moderated by Károly Kovács the lecturers discussed the water utility developments, the challenges water sector is facing with and the sustainable municipal water management solutions from a perspective of examples of cities that had been awarded as European Green Capital.
More than two-third of the Europeans lare living in cities, in urban ares that are the source of environmental challenges and their innovative solutions everyday.
European Green Capital Award recognises and rewards the local efforts to improve the environment, the economy and quality of life in the cities. The Award is given each year to a city which is leading the way in environmentally friendly urban living. In 2017 Essen was awarded as the Green Capital of Europe.

Within the framework of Wasser Berlin Károly Kovács also attended to EWA Management Committee meeting and participated in the European Technical and Scientific Committee meeting as well where he reported about the activities of the Working Group on Economics.
The WG formulates a cohesive EWA opinion and recommendations on the professional issues of cost recovery , sustainable water management in order to improve contribution of importance of professional economic planning in the field of water related investments and developments. WG is developing professional programs in terms of sharing of knowledge and up-to-date information on EWA level.
In April, Károly Kovács participates in the waste management conference to be held within the framework of Renexpo in Belgrade. In May he attends the municipal water management professional workshop to be organised by EWA-DWA and ASEM Water in China (Sanghai) as a co-event of the three-day IE-Expo. Furthermore the second EWA Spring Conference will be held in May in Lisbon, where the main topic is the 6th Sustainable Development Goal (Water and Sanitation). Achievements of these events will be reported soon.
